JAMAICAN CHECKERS

A likkle strategy.

  1. Black goes first. Each side starts with 12 pieces. The playable corner is at Black’s bottom right.
  2. Move diagonally forward. An ordinary piece moves one square into an empty space.
  3. Taking is compulsory. Ordinary pieces jump enemies forward or backward. Finish every available jump with that piece. You may choose a capture route; it needn’t be the longest.
  4. Kings fly. Move any distance along an open diagonal. Jump one enemy at a time and choose a landing beyond it. If a landing after that jump allows another capture, use one that continues.
  5. Crown at the end. A piece becomes a king only if its complete move finishes on the far row. Captured pieces stay as blockers until the whole turn ends.
  6. Win when your opponent has no pieces or no legal move. Three repetitions of a position draw the game. In a three-kings-versus-one ending, the stronger side has 13 moves to win.

Traditional Jamaican / Pool rules are used here. Some clubs and tournament events use different draw limits.
